Chromecast has been a household name in Google, but things are starting to change. Google is ditching the Chromecast brand for its streaming devices and bringing in a new name: Google TV Streamer.
Google notes that the new set-top box device is more than just a change in name. There will be new developments to the media player devices that will enhance user streaming experience. This was confirmed by an article published at 9to5Google.
Google Chromecast has an existing unique dongle plug-in feature that you can easily tuck and hide to your TV. The new Google TV Streamer works in a different way. It is quite similar to the set-top cable box you see on some streaming boxes.
Let’s describe Google TV Streamer. Imagine a pill-shaped box with a slanted, wide forward surface. It has two cables in the box with low, minimal height that you can still hide below your TV. As for the remote, it is longer with two shortcut buttons for YouTube and Netflix. It also has a Magic or star shortcut and a mute button. All these functions are now on the face of the remote including the volume.
There is no definite date yet as to when Google will launch its new Google TV Streamer, but expect it to happen before the end of 2024.
