How to Troubleshoot & Fix TV Shows and Movies on Netflix Keeps Buffering or Stopping on Smart TV, Phone & Other Devices

One of the main causes of the constant buffering error on Netflix is the unstable network connection. To stream on Netflix, you need to have at least a 3 Mbps Internet signal. For high-definition videos, make sure your network connection is at least 5 Mbps. If it is below the network requirements, you can try to improve your connection.

Perform a Power Cycle on your Streaming Device

Doing a power cycle will reboot your device and refresh its processes. It will also refresh your network connection and improve the signal. Turn off your device and unplug your router and modem. Wait for at least 3 minutes before plugging them back in and restarting your device.

Sign Out and Sign In for Netflix

  • On Netflix, go to the Settings menu or Get Help section.
  • Select Sign out.
  • Now, sign back in to your Netflix account.

Install Available Updates on your Device

You may have overlooked pending updates on your device. These updates are crucial to keeping your device’s performance better. Navigate to the Settings or System menu of your device. Check if there are software updates available and install them. Restart your device.

Lower the Stream Quality on your Netflix Account

  • Go to your account or profile page on the Netflix app. You can also open the Netflix website on any web browser and log in to your account.
  • Head over to Profile & parental controls.
  • Select your profile.
  • Choose Playback settings.
  • Select Change.
  • Now, set the Data usable per screen to medium or low.

Update your Netflix App

  • Launch the App section of your device.
  • Look for Netflix.
  • Check if there are updates available.
  • You can also go to the Store section, the App Store, or Google Play Store.
  • Look for Netflix and select the Update button.

Reinstall the Netflix App

If nothing works, all you have to do is install a fresh copy of the Netflix app on your mobile phone, tablet, smart TV or streaming players. Uninstall your current Netflix app based on your device’s instructions. Navigate to the app store section and look for Netflix. Install a new version of the app.
