How to Configure or Change Double-Tap Seek/Skip Time Settings on YouTube

With so many videos to watch and stream, it sometimes makes sense to skip the boring parts. Bearing through a minute of unnecessary dialogues or trail of sceneries does not always have to happen to you. It helps if you can skip these parts and move on to the better ones.

Google hears you and that is why the YouTube video streaming app gives you the double-tap to seek feature. It allows users to double-tap on their screen during playback, so the video skips for several seconds. If you are watching a rerun and know what to expect in the next twenty seconds, this feature comes in handy.

While streaming YouTube on your desktop or laptop computer enables you to adjust the seek bar with your mouse, it is not that easy when watching videos on your mobile device. The touchscreen interface on an Android phone or tablet or iPhone and iPad does not help you to have an accurate seeking or skipping time. If you use the Double-Tap to Seek feature, all you have to do is tap on your touchscreen twice to skip a few seconds.

The good news is that you can modify and change the timer or number of seconds that you want to skip when double tapping on your YouTube screen. By default, YouTube allows you a skip time of 10 seconds per double-tap. If you configure the timing settings properly, you can skip up to 60 seconds.

Steps to Change Double-Tap to Seek App Feature Timer to Skip Parts in a YouTube Video

Unfortunately, the only drawback to Youtube’s Double-Tap to Seek feature is not being able to disable it. If you don’t like the idea of skipping videos, you don’t have the option to turn it off. Still, you can refrain from tapping on your screen when watching the videos.

So, how do you configure and revise the skip time on YouTube? Follow the steps below.

  • Launch the YouTube app on your Android or iOS mobile device.
  • On the top right corner, tap your profile icon.
  • Go to Settings.
  • Select General.
  • Tap Double-Tap to Seek.
  • Now, select your preferred skip time.

You can choose 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, or 60 seconds of skip time when streaming on YouTube. To use the Double-Tap to Seek feature, double tap on the left side of the screen to go backward or rewind and on the right side to fast forward.
