One issue is device compatibility. Your current Roku player is not compatible with the current Max app. For instance, some users claim that the Max app is not working on their Roku Model 4800X.

In some instances, it is a matter of software compatibility. Older software version of your Roku can no longer support the new Max app. What you can do is to update your Roku software and check if it works. Head over to Settings and select System. Choose System Update and select Check Now.

Another possible method is to perform a System Restart. First, remove Max from Roku. Then, launch Settings and choose System. Select System Restart. Now, you can add Max again.

You can also try signing in with your tv provider. Instead of using your email address during sign in, click Connect Your Provider.  Just follow the instructions on how you can sign in to Max using your provider.

Wrapping Up

It is trial and error, but hopefully one of the methods above works for you. Otherwise, you can contact Max customer support and simply wait for them to fix the issue themselves.
