This co-watching feature creates a solution for families and friends who may be physically apart but desire to continue watching movies or TV series together. With Apple SharePlay co-viewing tool, you can sync the same TV show on different devices and from different locations. It feels like you are watching TV together in the same place. Plus, you can interact on FaceTime or iMessage.
Now for the better news – Max (formerly HBO Max) is now available and completely compatible with Apple SharePlay watch party mode everywhere, around the world! You can stream Max on Apple SharePlay and watch it together with anyone you like. It works with live sports and on-demand movies. When you use SharePlay on Max, you can create a session with up to 32 people.
Unfortunately, only Max users with Ad-Free and Ultimate Ad-Free streaming plans can use Apple SharePlay Watch Together feature. Plus, joiners of the Watch Together session must use devices running on iPadOS 15.1, iOS 15.1, tvOS 15.1 or visionOS 1.0 or later.
How to Start a Watch Together Session on Max using Apple SharePlay
- To use Apple SharePlay, launch your Max app and play a title.
- Tap the Share icon and select SharePlay.
- Next, enter the contacts you want to invite and select whether you want to use FaceTime or Messages.
- Now, tap Watch Now. For Apple Vision Pro, you can use FaceTime.
As for Apple TV users, you may need to launch FaceTime first and initiate a call to everyone you want to join in SharePlay. Click the SharePlay button and choose Max. Now, select the title you want to stream and click Watch Now.
