Fire TV devices are Amazon’s version of low-priced TV streaming sticks and media players, similar to Google’s Chromecast devices, which connect to a TV via an HDMI port and can offer many services and functionality.
The aim of these sorts of products, such as the Amazon Fire TV Stick, is to provide a simplified streaming experience with convenient controls via the Fire TV remote. A Firestick device works with popular streaming platforms with dedicated apps, such as Netflix, Disney+, and Hulu, to name a few.
As great as a product they are, however, users often can find themselves encountering issues with these products – unable how to resolve them. One of the popular issues that users face is that they cannot screen mirror on their Fire TV device, and so this article is dedicated to resolving this issue so that users can continue to use their device.
Ways to Troubleshoot Amazon Fire TV Stick Device Screen Mirroring or Casting Not Working Issues
The troubleshooting steps to help you fix the issues with screen mirroring or casting feature that is freezing, exiting, or not working on Amazon Fire TV Stick or Firestick devices will be covered in the following sections.
1. Perform a Hard Reset of the Device
The first way to troubleshoot the error is to perform a hard reset of your Fire TV device, which involves powering off the device completely and unplugging it from the TV to ensure that it has had time to turn itself back on. Occasionally, issues are stored in the device’s RAM storage, and this will be cleared when a hard reset is performed. To do so:
- Power off Firestick using the Fire TV remote.
- Power off the connected TV device using the remote control.
- Unplug the Fire TV device via the HDMI port that it is connected to on your TV.
- Reconnect the Fire TV to your TV and turn everything on again.
- Check to see if the issue is resolved.
2. Update your Firestick Device to the Latest Firmware Version
If a hard reset doesn’t resolve your issue, another method to fix the problem is to update the Amazon Fire TV device, as occasionally updates will be released that solve known problems. To update your Fire TV or Firestick to the latest firmware version:
- Open the settings menu on your Fire TV by clicking the button with three dots (the menu button).
- Scroll down the options until you reach the My Fire TV section.
- Click on About.
- At the bottom of this section, you should find an Updates section, where you can check for updates and, if available, install the latest firmware.
3. Check if your Fire TV Supports Screen Mirroring
If the above two methods did not resolve your problem, then it could be that your device does not support screen mirroring or casting.
The following devices are unsupported for the Amazon Fire TV Screen Mirroring feature:
- iOS and macOS devices
- Android devices running an Android OS before 4.2 (Jelly Bean)
- Android devices with no Miracast support
- Windows Devices that do not support Wireless Display (WiDi).
You can then check if your Amazon Fire TV Stick device supports screen mirroring by holding the Home button on your Fire TV remote, and if there is a Mirroring icon, then your device supports screen mirroring.
