Change Region in Spotify to Another Country to Get Different Sets of Songs

So, you are traveling abroad and listening to your favorite tunes. Then, all of a sudden, you received this message from Spotify: “Enjoying your trip? To listen for more than 14 days, tell us where you are at Spotify.com/account.”

Is changing the region in Spotify to another country necessary? What will happen if you don’t change the region while traveling?

Spotify runs on strict licensing agreements that may be different in every region. That means, not all songs or artists can be played on Spotify in every country or region. Some of them may be banned or not allowed. In such cases, the streaming service will require its users to switch to the current region that they are in when traveling abroad.

Now in the case of Spotify Premium users, they are spared from such requirements. They can still continue to their usual song playlist indefinitely wherever they go as long as they remain in their paid subscription. Not in the case of free-tier users.

Spotify users with free accounts will have up to 14 days only to play their usual playlist. Before the 14 days are up, they need to change their region, otherwise, the Spotify music app will no longer function.

Changing the region on Spotify takes only a few steps. However, the method may not be the same with Premium users. While those using the free accounts can edit their region via their account profile, Premium users will need to change their payment method linked to their current region.

Take note that changing the region settings must be done on the web, as it is not available on the mobile app. To change your region, go to your Spotify account. Click your Profile and select Account. Another way is to navigate to the Settings menu and select View Account.

Click Edit Profile and head over to Country or Region. Click the drop down menu and select your current location or the country you are currently traveling to.

How to Change Payment Method on Spotify for Premium Users

If you are subscribed to a Premium plan and want to change to your current region or country, you may need to change your payment method.

On Spotify, click on your Profile or head over to Settings. Choose View Account or just Account. Go to your payment method and click Update. Enter your payment method.

That’s it! Spotify will not stop you from enjoying your favorite tunes even while traveling abroad. But, you just need to follow their instructions to keep your music playing.
