Below are a few methods to help you fix the sound issues caused by hardware or software errors on your Chromebook device. Try to follow each of the steps one at a time and check if it works for you or not. You can apply these methods if you can’t hear anything when playing an audio or video on your Acer, Asus, HP, Lenovo, or Samsung Chromebook laptop computer.
Restart your Chromebook
Turn off your Chromebook for a few seconds. Then, reboot it and check if the audio issue is still there.
Check your Sound Settings
- Navigate to the lower right corner of your Chromebook.
- Click the Clock icon.
- Select the Speaker icon.
- Check if the audio is on mute. You can also adjust the volume slider higher.
Check your Speaker or Headphone
Make sure your speaker or headphone connects to your Chromebook firmly. Check for any signs of damage on the cord. You can also disconnect and reconnect your speaker or headphone.
Verify the Sound Output
- Go to the lower right corner of your Chromebook.
- Click the taskbar icon.
- Click the left arrow.
- Navigate to the Audio Settings.
- Look for the Output section.
- Select your preferred speaker.
Reconnect your Bluetooth
- Click the taskbar icon at the lower right corner of your Chromebook.
- Look for the Bluetooth icon and click it.
- Select Add a new device.
- Choose your Bluetooth device.
- Go to the Audio Settings.
- Navigate to the Output section.
- Select your Bluetooth device.
Install Latest Updates for your ChromeOS
- On the lower right corner, click the taskbar icon.
- Click the Gear icon or the Settings button.
- Scroll down and choose About ChromeOS.
- Check if there are available updates.
- Click the Restart button.
Use a Different Audio Device
If you have another speaker or headphones you can use, try to switch to a different device. Sometimes, the problem lies with your current speaker or headphone.
