Sometimes, the video playback error happens due to a problem with Instagram’s server. You can verify if Instagram’s server is down by checking their social media updates or searching for Instagram on DownDetector. If the server is down, you cannot do anything about it except wait.

But, if Instagram’s server is okay, the problem may be on your end. You can try to resolve the issue by following several methods below.

Restart your Device

One of the first things you can do to fix the Instagram Reels problem is to power off your device. Then, wait for a few minutes before you restart it. A quick reboot on your device will help troubleshoot bugs and refresh processes.

Update your Instagram App

Some cases of Instagram Reels videos not working are after users installed an update. But, if you have not installed the latest update on your Instagram app, you can download the latest version.

  • Go to the App Store or the Google Play Store.
  • Navigate to Apps or select Manage Apps.
  • Look for Instagram and check if an update is available.
  • Now, try to install the new version.

Logout of Instagram and Log Back In

You can try to log out of your account and wait for a few seconds. Then, try to sign back in and check if you can load the Instagram Reels videos.

  • Tap your profile pic.
  • Tap the three-lined icon in the upper right corner.
  • Select Settings.
  • Tap Log Out.
  • Select Log Out again.

Clear the Instagram App Cache

  • Launch the Settings menu of your device.
  • Go to Apps.
  • Select Instagram.
  • Navigate to Storage.
  • Tap Clear Cache.

Turn Off Data Server Mode

  • Navigate to your profile page on Instagram.
  • Tap the three-lined icon.
  • Go to Settings.
  • Select Accounts.
  • Tap Mobile data use.
  • Look for Data Saver and toggle the button to Off.

Reinstall the Instagram App

What you need to do is to uninstall the app first based on your device’s method. Then, navigate to the AppStore or the Google Play Store. Search for Instagram and install the app.

Report the Problem to Instagram

  • Tap the three-lined icon on your profile page.
  • Select Settings.
  • Choose Help.
  • Tap Report a problem.
  • Enter the details of the error.
  • Tap the Submit button.
