How to Fix AirPods Connected to Chromebook But No Sound Issue

Airpods are no cheap devices so no one can blame you if you find yourself annoyed and frustrated when yours stops working all of a sudden. Although faulty hardware is often the cause of this issue, more often than not, AirPods, AirPods Pro or AirPods Max connection issues or software glitches are the ones at fault.

Adjust Your AirPods Volume

Your AirPods might be a bit tricky to use with your Chromebook if there is an issue with its volume settings. While you might have paired or connected the two devices, you will have a hard time hearing the sounds if your Airpods’ volume is extremely low.

To check your Airpods’ volume, just follow the steps below:

  1. Connect your AirPods and your phone.
  2. Proceed to the Settings menu of your phone.
  3. Set the volume to maximum in Volume Limit and listen to music.
  4. Go back to the Settings menu.
  5. Choose Accessibility, Audio/Visual, and select Balance Left or Right.
  6. Ensure that the slider is in the center to balance the audio and ensure that both Airpods get equal sound.
  7. Connect your AirPods again to your Chromebook and play something to check if the problem is fixed.

Keep Your Airpods Clean

This may sound silly but dirty Airpods can make it harder for you to hear the sounds coming from them. It means that you might be able to connect your Airpods to your Chromebook but there might be no sound at all.

Just like any electronics, AirPods also accumulate dirt that might damage them, specifically the proximity sensors which can lead to the failure of their automated ear detection. Make it a habit to always clean your AirPods to prevent sound issues or to ensure that they don’t get seriously damaged.

A lint-free cloth, cotton earbud, or a mixture of water and isopropyl alcohol can be a great choice for cleaning your Airpods.

Place Your Airpods in Their Original Charging Case

Try putting back your AirPods in their original charging case first and see if it solves the issue. Check their charge level. Charge them for a minimum of 30 to 40 minutes if your AirPods have little to no charge at all.

Remove your AirPods from the case and then play something from your Chromebook. If one or both of them are still not working, place them back inside the case again and go over the process once more.

Disable Audio Balance and Music Volume Level Limit

If your Airpods are connected to Chromebook but there is no sound, see to it that the volume of your Airpods is not too low to the point that you can’t hear it at all. iOS devices come with an option that allows you to control the Music app’s volume limit.

The Volume Limit feature is disabled by default. Turn it back on if someone accidentally switched it on. Just go to Settings app and then select Music app. Switch off Volume. It means that you should put the volume limit on the slide to Maximum.

You can also go to the Settings app on your iPhone, choose Accessibility and then select Audio/Visual, and then Balance Left or Right. The Slide position should be in the middle to pass equal sound on the right and left Airpod.

In Closing

The fixes above may be able to help you ensure that you can continue using your AirPods connected to your Chromebook without any sound issues.
