How to Fix HBO Max App No Sound or Audio Not Working Issues on TV Devices

The remake of Gossip Girl gives fans more reason to subscribe to HBO Max and binge-watch the first ten episodes of the series. People from the Upper-East Side are back for another round of gossip, drama, and love.

But, as you turn on your smart TV, streaming player, computer or mobile device, bringing all the excitement from the residue of the previous TV series eight years ago, HBO Max does not make any sound at all. The audio may be working fine with advertisements or other apps. But, when you try to stream or play a show or movie on the HBO Max app, there is no sound or audio coming out.

The issue is commonly experienced by users watching content on HBO Max using Samsung smart TV, Roku player, Chromecast with Google TV, Android phone or tablet, and NVIDIA Shield TV.

While it is frustrating to encounter a problem on your HBO Max app, there are troubleshooting methods that will help you fix the error in the app or settings and get you back on the streaming wagon in no time.

So, how do you fix and get rid of the audio issue on HBO Max? One of the first steps you need to do when you see a problem with your HBO Max app such as audio not working or no sound issue, is to exit the streaming app and relaunch it. Doing so will help refresh your app connection and processes that will help load the sound better. If that does not do anything to make the audio come back, try these solutions below.

Power Cycle your Streaming & Network Devices

If exiting the app does not work to fix the audio problem in HBO Max app, you may want to refresh your devices by performing a power cycle method.

  • Close the HBO Max app and turn off your smart TV or other streaming devices.
  • Unplug your smart TV or streaming player, your router or modem.
  • Wait for at least 1 minute before plugging them back in.
  • Connect to the Internet and turn on your TV or other devices.
  • Relaunch HBO Max and try again.

Try Checking your Volume Level or your External Speakers

It can be a problem with your speakers or the volume of your device. Turn the volume up and down to see if it works. Try playing the audio from other apps to check if your speaker and volume are working fine. You may also want to switch to a headphone if you are using your mobile device.

Comments

  1. None of the fixes worked for me either. HBO Max is useless if the sound cuts out for a second every minute while watching. I am cancelling as well.

  2. The problem I have with HBOmax is that when I exit the app, there is no sound on anything else including cable TV. I’m trying to use it on a Sony Bravia TV.
